It calls on supporters to visit their TDs, share their stories, and demand that the political system ends discrimination and inequality and instead treats same-sex couples equally with heterosexual couples. The French constitutional court has upheld a ban on gay marriage, which was challenged by a lesbian couple with four children.
The court ruled that the ban, challenged by Corinne Cestino and Sophie Hasslauer, was in keeping with the constitution.
Activists had hoped France would join states like Spain and Belgium in legalising same-sex marriage.
An opinion poll suggests most French people are in favour. Continue reading »

The Constitutional Council is due to publish its decision on the case refered to them by the Cour de Cassation, as mentioned here before: http://irishpinkadoptions.com/2010/11/16/2010-11-16-france-constitutional-court-to-decide-if-marriage-ban-is-illegal/
2 women who have lived together for 14 years, are raising 4 children, and have contracted a civil partnership (they are “PACSéare”), are seeking full constitutional and legal protection for their children.
The PACS is similar to the Irish Civil Partnership: it casts away the natural rights of children to be raised in a family protected by Society.
The Council has to decide if articles 75 and 144 of the “Civil Code”, which excludes same-gender people from civil marriage, are constitutional. Continue reading »

Let’s hope this applies to all unmarried couples, regardless of gender… and sexual orientation.
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/republic-of-ireland/td-calls-for-reform-of-family-law-15057687.html

A junior minister has called for reform of family law to give equal rights to single fathers and unmarried couples.Mary White, Green Party TD and minister for equality, warned many men suffer difficulties from marital or relationship breakdown and a lack of access to their children.

This article, by one of our members, was published last week for the IAA’s newsletter.

Raising children is not easy.
Adopting children is even harder.
Adopting as a sole applicant can be daunting, but it can also be very frustrating if you are actually a couple who is not married: one of the two has to apply as a sole applicant.
Some countries will not allow sole applicants who are not single!
Now imagine all that, and not even having the right to marry! Continue reading »
