Children’s services could be hardest hit by Northern Ireland’s draft budget, the Children’s Commissioner has warned.
Young people have been left invisible by the four-year spending plan, said Patricia Lewsley.
She said children’s services in health, social care, education and in the community were already under-funded.
“The budget needs to be re-written to clearly show where resources are being allocated to meet children’s rights and best interests,” she said. Continue reading »

Will Young has clarified comments he made in which he seemingly revealed that he would like to become a father.
A tabloid report suggested that the 32-year-old had ruled out using a surrogate mother in order to have a baby. However, speaking to Metro, Young explained the origins of his comments.
“Someone asked me at an awards show recently if I wanted kids, which seems to be a standard question to ask gay men these days,” he told the paper. “I said yes and he said: ‘How would you have a child?’ I said, ‘Through penetrative sex’. Continue reading »

The French constitutional court has upheld a ban on gay marriage, which was challenged by a lesbian couple with four children.
The court ruled that the ban, challenged by Corinne Cestino and Sophie Hasslauer, was in keeping with the constitution.
Activists had hoped France would join states like Spain and Belgium in legalising same-sex marriage.
An opinion poll suggests most French people are in favour. Continue reading »

The Constitutional Council is due to publish its decision on the case refered to them by the Cour de Cassation, as mentioned here before: http://irishpinkadoptions.com/2010/11/16/2010-11-16-france-constitutional-court-to-decide-if-marriage-ban-is-illegal/
2 women who have lived together for 14 years, are raising 4 children, and have contracted a civil partnership (they are “PACSéare”), are seeking full constitutional and legal protection for their children.
The PACS is similar to the Irish Civil Partnership: it casts away the natural rights of children to be raised in a family protected by Society.
The Council has to decide if articles 75 and 144 of the “Civil Code”, which excludes same-gender people from civil marriage, are constitutional. Continue reading »

Wednesday Oct 6 2010
Gamu Nhengu, the X Factor contestant whose departure from the show caused outcry, has been ordered to leave the Britain.
The 18-year-old, from Zimbabwe, had been tipped to win the competition outright but failed to even qualify as one of the final 12 contestants after being rejected by judge Cheryl Cole.
Reports earlier this week claimed Gamu’s failure was related to issues with her visa, and on Tuesday night the Home Office confirmed her family had been sent an official letter telling them to leave Britain.
The order was the result of an investigation into £16,000 in benefits wrongly claimed by her mother, Nokutula, The Sun reported. Continue reading »
