Fact: The marriage ban for same-gender couples discriminates against Irish families and children.

At Marriage Equality, we want to change that and we are asking you to help us.

Please watch Rory’s Story – a new short film by Marriage Equality and FailSafe Films.

Please help us spread the word by sharing Rory’s Story with your friends and family.

What would you give to get marriage equality across the line? We are currently facing an urgent funding need, and without your help over the next few months, we will have to close our doors. Please click here to make a donation to the Marriage Equality campaign today.

Together we can make a difference for same-sex couples, our families and our children.

Because no child deserves to be a stranger to their parents.

March for Marriage 22/08/2010@2pm (City Hall, Dublin) – last push!

lgbtNoiseLike before, our most active members will be marching with the crowds for marriage this year.
Sadly some of us just feel too pressured to do so.
For the rest, we will have white knots’ ribbon and safety pins at hand!
We will be gathering for the march at 2pm just beside City Hall on Dame Street and marching to the Department of Justice.
We will have white knots’ ribbon and safety pins at hand to give for free to make your own white knots.
Bring your friends, family, strangers met in the DART, the bus and the LUAS!
Why not?

Civil Partnership vs Marriage… Tax-payers vs Parents (HRinI guest blog)

Human Rights in Ireland contacted us to write a blog about the Civil Partnership from the point of view of the impact on children of gay couples. Here is the link: http://www.humanrights.ie/index.php/2010/08/05/cpcroca-2010-naurice-on-family-protection-and-pink-adoption/
It has our guest blog but also read the other related blogs on the same topic fo Civil Partnership, from other points of view.

FAQ: “White Knot? Why not” – Where can I find the knots?

A lot of people asked us where to find them, and if we sell them.
We do not sell them: we actually suggest you make it yourself.

We found people are more likely to see it if you make it yourself and ask what it means.
Also, symbolically, we suggest you make it from a small safety pin and from a piece of your own bed linen… after washing it of course!
It may look better if you do it from a piece of ribbon though.

Any other white fabric can do. We like the look of the torn fabric but not everyone does.

  • Just pin the safety pin in place, and tie the knot twice around the bigger loop, ensuring the not is well visible.
You can also cut the ends of the know to form a little “V” or a “/” to make it more stylish.
  • OTHERWISE, you can make a double know and pin one of the two ends, and let the whole thing hang.

But some people do not like the look of the home made one.

So, alternatively you can get them from free from the USA site: http://whiteknot.org/how.html (USA self-addressed stamped enveloped needed)

Here are their instructions on how to make your own with a ribbon: http://www.whiteknot.org/making.html

The campaign for the white know was originally launched in the States, so they bulk sale them too.
We have no connection or with, relation to, or benefit from them. And we do not intend to provide them.

But it can be a great idea for a fund raiser or for a march.

Civil Partnership vs Marriage… Tax-payers vs Parents

For or against the Civil Partnership?

The Civil Partnership is a step forward for tax-payers, a leap backward for children’s constitutional rights.

The Civil Partnership is a good thing, because it is better than what we had before: gay couples are now going to be recognized as valid couples, as valid tax-payers.

But it is also the resounding and insulting refusal to recognize us as valid parents, and thus it is a continuous breach of children’s constitutional rights.

Children rights were breached before, but they are even more breached now

White knot, why not?

Pressure groups for equal rights to marry have not come up with a strong public symbol.

This one is simple: a white knot.

Call the campaign: white knot, why not?

But it is just an American fad? Or can it be worn by us all, within a week?

No need to buy them: just pin a white ribbon made form a strip of white fabric.

And when asked at work, or at home, why you do it, simply answer that you believe that marriage is a human right, and that you are human too. And that it is time the government noticed.

Why not send one to your TD/Senator as well?
